The Bible Is Scary

One of the most baffling stories of the bible is when Abraham takes his son Issac to give him as a sacrifice to god. His wife was supposed to be 100 years old when she had him. Now suddenly he takes his only son born in marriage to kill him for god. He gets to the mount where he is to sacrifice him, ties him up and prepares to sacrifice him. Then god “says” it was a test. A goat happened to be there. So he sacrificed it instead.
To punch a few holes in this story, lets look at it rationally.
No woman has ever been recorded to be able to have children at that age. Simply in a geriatric stage her body would not produce enough hormones, be stable or strong to have this child.
Abraham lies about his intentions and leads the boy away. Doesn’t say much about the honesty of gods followers.
He terrorizes his young child by tying him up and brandishing a knife. Talk about childhood trauma. Who could ever call themselves a decent father after that, even if you didn’t kill them.
Suddenly a goat appears and god tells him to sacrifice that instead. Well no wild mountain goats are known for standing around waiting to be slaughtered, so a old man and his little son would have had to chase it around, and then fight it to the ground, tie it up and then sacrifice it. Not only does that sound absurd for a man supposed to be over 100 years old, but for a little son of maybe 9. If we go as far at to believe that all of this happened, then god seems pretty merciless when it comes to life.
And if you can justify that story to your self, then you are what is wrong with this world.

  1. If Abraham had a Glock. the angel may not have gotten there in time , off by a quarter second is my guess. Angel lacked free will and Abraham pulled the trigger at 159 milliseconds after visual contact. Poor boy, the choice cuts went to the priest anyway. Damnit!

    • Well we should modern up the bible, instead of swords everyone should have glock’s in Revelations.

      • Yep, it’s hard to imagine anything making the bible more brutal. All the warriors for Yahweh/Christ today find all the justification they need for their actions in the bad book.
